From Regular Old Pattern to Seamless

Posted by on Mar 23, 2014 in Commercial Use, Freebies, Scrapbooking, Tutorials | 4 comments

Have you ever had a paper that you wanted to use, but you needed something that had a seamless pattern? O.K., I guess you know where I’m heading … back to that ol’ Paper Flower Action. This time, it’s for a reason. One of my recommendations with regard to the paper you use is to use one with a seamless pattern.

What exactly does that mean? It means that one edge of the paper, meets up seamlessly with the other edge of the paper. With my action, this only needs to be the left/right sides, but a real seamless pattern will also have it’s top and bottoms sides match up. My example below is from my Chasing the Sun collection … this is a seamless pattern.

Using the Paper Flower Action with Others Templates

Posted by on Mar 19, 2014 in Commercial Use, Scrapbooking, Tutorials | 4 comments

It’s been a while, but I have a really good excuse. On a whim, I created an action that seems to have taken both the designer’s and day-to-day scrapper’s world by storm. It’s called simply Paper Flower Action and it creates rosette style flowers using your own papers. There are actually two versions of this: one is for Photoshop Creative Suite (CS2-CC) and the other for Photoshop Elements (6-12).

Fabulous Flowers and Terrific Templates

Posted by on Mar 5, 2014 in Commercial Use, Scrapbooking, Tutorials | 4 comments

My name is Kate and Jill has graciously asked me to share with you my technique for using her CU templates to make fabulous flowers.  Jill asked me to be sure to let you know about the freebie cluster at the end of this tutorial.  I’m a newbie to the world of digital scrapbooking. I don’t have any formal training in design or art. So if I can make lovely elements anyone can do the same thing. What makes it possible are the commercial templates that Jill designs. They are so easy to work with that great results are a given.  I’m hooked on making flowers!  For this tutorial I’m using Jill’s Templates-Flowers 1 available in her CU Store  at the Digital Scrapbooking Studio.  I’m using Photoshop CS6, template flower 3 and papers from Jill’s King’s Bounty collection, available in her PU Store at theStudio.

Second blurb…end of the post you’ll find a free download, with thanks to Jill; a lovely cluster that includes our flower and elements from King’s Bounty.  Okay, on to the fun stuff!

1. Click on the “eye” and hide all but the bottom most template layer,

Layer 1

then duplicate that bottom layer.

Love those Charm Frames but what can you do with them?

Posted by on Feb 17, 2014 in Commercial Use, Scrapbooking, Tutorials | 1 comment

“Love those Charm Frames but what can you do with them?” I was recently asked this and I’m sure the person was wondering what you can do besides use them as a typical frame. I actually had been on the hunt for some of these to use with making my “charms” … those little pendants that I add to my kits that typically contain a photo but sometimes I like to put a stone in them. These frames are perfect for this. I thought about keeping them all to myself, but that’s not the kind of person I am … and now I’m going to show you the way I use them. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to make that little special extra for your kit OR even for your layouts.

I like working on a full size (3600 x 3600) canvas. That way I know the scale of what I’m working on. So to start I create a new file then place one of the frames into it.

I thought I’d take some time to show you some different ways to use my new patterns products. We’ve all used overlays, but I thought I’d show you some of the ways I use them and maybe show you something new or maybe you can share some ideas with me. I’ve also included the papers as a freebie for you.

To start, this is the first paper I made …
