Kaleidoscope Action

I’ve been doing a lot of hinting, but now it’s time for the reveal – my newest action called Kaleidoscope Action. This action is something that I’ve been working on for over a year. It was a request from one of my customers who saw something similar at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. At the aquarium, there was a camera set up with a monitor beside it. You stood in front of the camera and your image would be turned into a kaleidoscope. It’s taken me a long time to get it to the point where I felt comfortable about releasing it … and I definitely plan to make it a big deal!!!

Here’s the preview. This will be 30% off thru August 23rd; even better, my entire CU store is on sale for 30% off because you’re probably going to want some overlays or brushes or even one of my other paper maker actions to go along with it.

There’s even more to the story behind this. I showed this to Toiny, owner of theStudio, and she instantly fell in love. So much so, that she did a video showing it in action. Check it out —

I also gave this to my team to test and they, too, fell in love. So much so, that they’ve been doing layouts using the output as background papers. And guess who did a paper pack of them for a freebie — Dona. She used some of my Cafe in Paris Toile papers and I think they came out SO cool! Just click on the preview to download it.***expired***

This product is actually a set of 10 actions … 1 set of 5 actions for Photoshop CS2 thru CC2015 and 1 set of 5 actions for PSE 11-13. While PS can also run the PSE actions, PSE cannot run the PS actions. If you take a look at Toiny’s video, you may be able to spot the reason why. The PS action is using smart objects allowing you to actually see, in almost real-time, any updates you make to the initial triangle. Unfortunately, PSE doesn’t do smart objects, so this capability doesn’t exist. Plus, instead of building the “template” up front, you begin by opening one of the start files that I’ve provided. I definitely plan to post more about how this works, just not today.

I really hope you have as much fun with this as my “testers” have. PLUS, I would love to see what you come up with. One last note: this has been tested in a foreign language and it worked (I’ve definitely learned my lesson here).

  1. Holy Cow, Jill!!! This is amazing! Thanks for the freebie, Jill and Dona – much appreciated!

  2. Thank you Jill and Dona for the beautiful papers. The Action looks fantastic – I love Kaleidoscopes!

  3. As always, Dona has created something gorgeous for us. She is always so generous with her time and talent.
Jill your kaleidoscope action looks really cool. I have an “effect” in PSP which can make kaleidoscopes our of images, but I’m sure your action is much easier to tweak. 🙂

    • It’s too bad that PSP doesn’t run on a Mac … otherwise I’d make it compatible with that too.

  4. These are gorgeous, thank you so much!
